Read & Clear Codes

"Read & Clear Codes" is a feature offered by diagnostic tools used in vehicle maintenance

When a car's onboard diagnostics system detects an issue, it generates a trouble code, which indicates the nature of the problem. "Reading" these codes involves using a diagnostic tool to access the car's computer system and retrieve the trouble codes. Once the codes are read, the diagnostic tool can then "clear" them, essentially resetting the system and turning off any warning lights on the dashboard.
Repair Reports

A repair report for each Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a detailed document

When a diagnostic tool reads the DTCs from your vehicle's onboard computer system, it can generate a report outlining possible reasons why the code was triggered, along with suggested solutions or fixes. This report helps mechanics and car owners understand the underlying issues affecting the vehicle and aids in the process of diagnosing and resolving problems effectively.
Mode 6

Used to access advanced onboard diagnostics (OBD) information in a vehicle.

During a Mode 6 test, the diagnostic tool communicates with the vehicle's onboard computer to retrieve detailed information about various system monitors and tests. This includes data such as sensor readings, component statuses, and test results. By analyzing this information, technicians can diagnose potential issues more accurately and efficiently, leading to more effective repairs and maintenance.
Freeze Frame Data

Freeze Frame data in a car refers to a snapshot of various vehicle parameters captured by the onboard diagnostic system

This Freeze Frame data provides valuable context for technicians diagnosing the issue, as it allows them to see the conditions under which the fault occurred. By analyzing this data, technicians can gain insights into the root cause of the problem and make more informed decisions about repairs or maintenance.
Smog Test

A Smog Check, also known as an emissions test or inspection, is a procedure performed on vehicles to assess their emissions output

During a Smog Check, a certified technician uses specialized equipment to measure the levels of pollutants emitted by the vehicle, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter. The vehicle is subjected to various tests, including tailpipe emissions tests and onboard diagnostic system (OBD) scans, to evaluate its emissions performance.
Battery Test

A battery test on a car provides valuable information about the condition and performance of the vehicle's battery.

State of Charge: The test can determine the current charge level of the battery, indicating how much electrical energy it currently holds. Voltage: The test measures the voltage output of the battery, which should fall within a specific range depending on the battery's state of charge and condition. Cranking Amps: This test evaluates the battery's ability to deliver power to start the engine (cranking). It measures the current the battery can provide at a specific temperature and for a specific duration. Overall Health: By analyzing the test results, technicians can assess the overall health and condition of the battery. This includes determining if the battery is holding a charge effectively, if it has any dead cells, or if it's nearing the end of its lifespan. Charging System: In some cases, a battery test can also provide insights into the vehicle's charging system, including the alternator and voltage regulator, by analyzing how the battery responds to charging.
